Baseball's Shaw Named All-ACC Second Team
May 18, 2015 | Baseball
Chestnut Hill, Mass. - Boston College junior Chris Shaw was named to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference Second Team, the league announced on Monday. It marked the second all-conference honor for the outfielder, as he earned first-team honors as a sophomore.
Shaw led the Eagles with a .319 batting average, 11 home runs, 43 RBIs and a .611 slugging percentage. He was on a 15-game hit streak with seven doubles and seven home runs when he fractured a bone in his hand on April 10. He returned 18 days after having surgery to record pinch-hit singles in back-to-back games at Virginia Tech to extend his hit streak to a career-long 17 games, which ranked third in BC record books. His 11 home runs tied for ninth in BC's single-season record books.
The Lexington, Mass., native earned the conference player of the week honors on March 30, along with National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Hitter of the Week accolades, as he led the Eagles to a perfect 5-0 week, including a weekend sweep of Duke. In two midweek games at Northeastern and against Holy Cross, the Lexington, Mass., native was 5-for-9 with seven RBIs and four extra-base hits. Against the Blue Devils, he scored in all three games, drove in four runs, and hit his first career walk-off home run in game two. Shaw led the Eagles with 11 RBIs, nine hits, and a 1.000 slugging percentage in the five games. He drove in the game-winning run in three of the five wins.
Shaw was the one of two ACC batters to belt three home runs in a single game doing so in the victory at Wake Forest on April 5 in a 4-for-5 afternoon. He notched a career-high seven RBIs on the day. His 11 home runs on the season tied for seventh in the league in 2015. He reaches base in 36 of the 40 games he played and tallied at least one hit in 30 of them.
Shaw is the second BC player to earn All-ACC accolades twice. Mickey Wiswall earned first-team honors in 2010 and second-team honors in 2009. The Eagles, who finished the 2015 season 27-27, 10-19 in the ACC, joined the ACC in 2006.
