April 06, 2015 | Baseball
Chestnut Hill, Mass. - The Boston College baseball team will team up with the Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) for the third straight year to honor current and former U.S. military members for the April 11 game against Clemson. The Eagles will wear specially-designed Under Armour uniforms and local veterans will be part of the 1:30 p.m. game.
The Eagles will don new camouflage uniforms for Saturday's game. The remainder of last year's Red, White and Blue Freedom jerseys will be auctioned off online with proceeds donated to the Wounded Warrior Project. The auction will open at noon on Friday, April 10 and will run until 5 p.m. on Friday, April 24. The starting bid for all jerseys will be $100 and can be found at www.bceagles.com/auctions.
On Thursday, April 9, local military veterans will participate in a softball game with the baseball team on Shea field at 3:30 p.m. Prior to the softball game, U.S. Army veteran Jason Braase will share his story with the BC Community at 2:30 p.m. in the Yawkey Center's Murray Room. Fans are welcome to attend both events.
After the Eagles and veterans play softball, the group will listen to Braase's story and participate in a "Backpack Build," preparing bags filled with essential care and comfort items designed to make a hospital stay more comfortable. BC alumni will deliver the backpacks to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Md., during an annual visit at the end of the month.
Local veterans will also be honored before and during the contest between the Eagles and the Tigers. A WWP table with information and paraphernalia will be set up at the entrance to the field.
The Wounded Warrior Project's mission is to foster the most successful, well-adjusted generation of wounded service members in U.S. history. Its purpose is to raise awareness and enlist the public's aid for the needs of injured service members; to help injured service members aid and assist each other; and to provide unique, direct programs and services to meet the needs of injured service members.
