CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Boston College football team wrapped up spring practice with an offense-defense scrimmage this morning amid snow flurries at Alumni Stadium. With today's scrimmage, the Eagles concluded spring of practice as they eye the 2015 season - the third under head coach Steve Addazio.
"The spring scrimmage is about letting them have a little fun," Addazio said after the workout. "Your work is done in the body of spring practice. They had fun today. They were having a great time. That's where we want to be and that's what we want to do."
The offense scored 21 points during the 45-minute scrimmage, which also included several short breaks to work in positional drills. The defense scored a touchdown on rising sophomore Isaac Yiadom's 65-yard runback off an interception.
"I really like our team's effort, attitude, enthusiasm, coachability, love of the game; I love all of that," Addazio said. "When you have that, it's only a matter of time. Eventually, it'll all come together. We have enough talent here now and enough coming in; it's just young. It's really young. With that comes this roller coaster ride. Our job is to smooth it out as fast as we can. Fifty-eight players are going to be first or second-year players. That's a lot."
Rising junior running backs Tyler Rouse (37 yards) and Myles Willis (10 yards) each recorded rushing touchdowns as all three of the Eagles' quarterbacks on campus - redshirt freshmen Darius Wade (6-13, 45 yards, INT) and Troy Flutie (3-6, 24 yards, TD) and freshman Elijah Robinson - saw action under center this morning.
Rising junior tight end Cameron Croteau wrapped up the scoring when he hauled down a 9-yard Flutie pass in the corner of the end zone at the end of the scrimmage.
Eight different receivers caught passes from Wade and Flutie, while four different backs had yardage: Rouse (2 rushes, 38 yards, TD), Willis (6 rushes, 21 yards, TD), rising sophomore Marcus Outlow (6 rushes for 16 yards) and rising sophomore Richard Wilson (8 rushes for 13 yards).
On the defensive side of the ball, rising senior Justin Simmons led the corps with seven tackles, including two pass breakups. Yiadom added two tackles and the interception for the touchdown.
Rising sophomore defensive lineman Harold Landry recorded five tackles, including a sack, while a pair of linebackers added three tackles apiece: rising sophomore Connor Strachan and freshman Jimmy Martin.
Boston College opens the 2015 season on Saturday, September 5 when the Eagles host Maine at Alumni Stadium. Season tickets, as well as group and individual game tickets, are now on sale at bceagles.com/tickets.
