Freshmen Casey Fitzgerald and Colin White were named to the preliminary roster for the 2016 U.S. National Junior Team. The players will attend training camp Dec. 14-18 at Boston University in Boston followed by an additional camp in Vierumaki, Finland, from Dec. 19-24.
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Freshmen Casey Fitzgerald (North Reading, Mass.) and Colin White (Hanover, Mass.) will represent Boston College as two of 29 skaters to be selected for the 2016 U.S. National Junior Team preliminary roster as announced by USA Hockey on Monday, Dec. 7.
Fitzgerald and White will attend training camp Dec. 14-18 at Boston University followed by an additional camp in Vierumaki, Finland, from Dec. 19-24. The final 23-man roster is expected to be named by Dec. 24. Team USA will compete in the 2016 International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championship, Dec.26-Jan.5, in Helsinki, Finland.
Both Fitzgerald are new to the roster as last season, Thatcher Demko, Noah Hanifin, Ian McCoshen, Steve Santini and Alex Tuch were all part of camp and all five Eagles made the club (Santini was held out due to injury).
Fitzgerald and White are two of five Hockey East skaters to make camp, joining Boston University's Brandon Fortunato and Charlie McAvoy alongside Notre Dame's Anders Bjork.
Fitzgerald has posted two goals and nine assists in 15 games played this year on The Heights. He spent two years with USA Hockey's National Team Development Program, then in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and was a member of the gold-medal winning U.S. Men's National Under-18 Team at the 2015 IIHF U18 World Championship.
White, in a current 10-game point streak, leads all rookies in college hockey with eight goals and 23 points. He is fifth, nationally, in scoring, averaging 1.53 points per game through Dec. 6th's contests. He was named the Warrior Hockey East Rookie of the Month and Hockey Commissioner's Association National Rookie of the Month for November. White was a two-year member of the NTDP and scored the gold-medal-winning overtime goal as an alternate captain with the 2015 U.S. Men's National Under-18 Team.
Both Fitzgerald and White are 15 invitees that were part of U.S. Men's National Under-18 Team that won the gold medal.
