BC HIGHLIGHTS AND GAME NOTES
• Matthew Gaudreau's eight-game point streak was curbed on Saturday against Northeastern but he picked up where he left off on Sunday with his second game-winning goal of the season. The Carneys Point, N.J., native scored his fourth goal of the season at 8:52 of the third period to count as his first GWG since potting one against Denver earlier this season on Oct. 30.
Â
• Colin White stretched his point streak to 10 games with an assist on Ryan Fitzgerald's short-handed tally. The Hanover, Mass., native is averaging two points per game (6-14-20) over the course of his stretch.
Â
• Ryan Fitzgerald scored his second short-handed goal of the season and fourth of his career at Matthews Arena on Sunday afternoon. Fitzgerald also assisted on Gaudreau's game-winning goal and matched a career best with eight shots on goal.
Â
• Alex Tuch has scored a goal in his last three outings, marking the third time in his career he's turned that trick.
Â
• Scott Savage recorded his sixth-career two-assist performance and first since a pair at Colorado College on Oct. 24, 2015.
Â
TURNING POINT
• Boston College was chasing a two-goal deficit to start the third period and the Eagles tied it on strikes from Josh Couturier and Alex Tuch, respectively, at 2:30 and 3:22 to start the period. Matthew Gaudreau tipped a blast at 8:52 of that same period and the Eagles preserved the 4-3 lead the rest of the way.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
Northeastern attacked first, 6:35 into regulation on a long-range attempt from Eric Williams. Mike McMurtry sent the puck over along the blue line and Williams picked his spot through traffic with a low wrister to the back of the net for the early 1-0 Huskies lead.
Â
At 12:05 of the same frame, Northeastern cashed in on a too many men bench minor charged to BC at the 10:33 mark. Colton Saucerman sent a one-timer dish through the zone with extra real estate and Williams blasted it past Thatcher Demko for his second of the afternoon on the power play for a 2-0 edge.
The first half of the second stanza unfurled scoreless but Boston College got on the board seconds after a Steve Santini infraction on the penalty kill.
Â
After Santini took a seat for cross-checking at 11:56, the Eagles struck on transition 21 seconds later after Casey Fitzgerald swept the puck out of BC's end to Colin White in the neutral zone. Ryan Fitzgerald slipped behind White streaking in and roofed White's rebound at 12:17 to cut NU's lead in half, 2-1.
Â
Just over a minute later, Northeastern regained its two-goal advantage at 13:35 of the second period. Dylan Sikura and Nolan Stevens worked the cycle down to Zach Aston-Reese on the far post and Aston-Reese lifted the puck over a sprawled Demko to close the second stanza at a 3-1 count.
Â
Chasing a two-goal deficit, the Eagles came out soaring to tie the game within the first three minutes of the third period.
Â
Miles Wood triggered the play with a blast that was blocked by Matt Benning at the top of the zone but Scott Savage made a heads up play to scoop up the loose disc and send it to the top of the circles where Josh Couturier wired a slapshot through a pile of players at 2:30 to make it a one-goal game, 3-2.
Â
On the ensuing play, Northeastern controlled the faceoff but Zach Sanford quickly turned it into a Boston College possession by stripping the puck in the neutral zone and handing it off to a streaking Alex Tuch down the right side. With Northeastern's defense on his heels, Tuch wheeled it around the right side of the net and tallied on the wrap around, beating Ruck before he could shift over at 3:22 to knot it up, 3-3.
Â
Boston College's momentum continued to swell and resulted in the Eagles' first lead of the game at 8:52 of the third period.
Â
Ryan Fitzgerald possessed on the far wall and sent the puck up to Scott Savage for a blast just within the blue line. Savage unloaded on the disc towards the slot where Matthew Gaudreau curled around and tipped the flying puck past Ruck in between the circles for the go-ahead, game-winning tally.
