His 28.6 return yards per game is first in BC record books
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College freshman Michael Walker was named to the Sporting News Freshman All-American Team for his special teams play, the outlet announced on Wednesday. The kick returner ranked second in the Atlantic Coast Conference with 28.6 yards per return – a new BC single-season record.
Â
Walker, a 6-foot, 195-pound wide receiver, returned 24 kicks in his first-year campaign, including two or more for the final eight games. He amassed 686 total yards, good for sixth in the BC record book. His returns total tied for 10th at The Heights.
Â
The Naples, Fla., native notched a career-high five returns for 152 yards against Virginia Tech on Oct. 31. The five carries tied for third in BC record books. He logged a career-long, 67-yard return against then fourth-ranked Notre Dame at Fenway Park on Nov. 21. In all, he had five returns of 40 yards or more in 2015.
Â
Walker added one rush of 14 yards and two catches for 41 yards – including a 32-yard grab against NC State – to his offensive stats for the season.
Â
The last BC player to earn first-year All-America accolades was running back Montel Harris (2008-10), who collected College Football News All-Freshman honorable mention in 2008.
