Six Eagles Earn Regional Honors

Stiekema earns all-region honors for third year
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Six members of the Boston College field hockey team earned 2015 Longstreth/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division I All-Northeast Region accolades, the organization announced on Monday. The Eagles were the most represented team on the regional roster.

Junior Emily McCoy, along with seniors Leah Settipane Romée Stiekema, picked up first-team honors, while freshman Frederique Haverhals, senior Kelcie Hromisin and junior Eryn McCoy earned second-team recognition. It marked Stiekema's third all-region honors, as she was a first-team honoree as a junior and second-team honoree as a sophomore. Both McCoys and Settipane were named to the second team in 2014.

Stiekema notched three goals and six assists for 12 points in her senior campaign. Playing in all 22 games, she was a commanding presence in the BC midfield. She also earned a spot on the All-Atlantic Coast Conference Second Team.

Midfielder Emily McCoy led the Eagles with 26 points and 10 goals. She also tied with her sister for the most game-winning goals with three. Both McCoys recorded six assists while forward Eryn picked up nine scores. Emily McCoy also collected All-ACC Second-Team honors for her play in 2015.

Settipane started all 22 games in net for BC. She put together a 1.87 goals-against average, allowing just 42 goals while making 135 saves. Her saves total and 6.14 saves per game ranked first in the ACC, while her .763 save percentage was second. She also recorded four shutouts on the season, third in the ACC.

Haverhals led the Eagles with nine assists, good to tie for fifth in the ACC. The back/midfielder also notched three defensive saves, which was fourth in the league. She finished the season with 12 points, adding four goals in her first-year campaign.

In total, 35 ACC student-athletes were named to all-region teams. Duke and North Carolina led the way with seven apiece. BC was third with six, followed by Louisville with five, Wake Forest with four and both Syracuse and Virginia had three players on the list.
