FRIDAY'S HEADLINES
BC AGAINST BOSTON UNIVERSITY
EAGLES VS. THE TERRIERS
BEST-EVER START
Boston College enters Saturday's game at 10-0-0, marking the first time the Eagles have maintained a perfect record this late into the season ... last year in 2014-15, even as the Eagles set a program record going undefeated through the first 29 games, BC started the season 5-0-1 through six games ... before this year, the longest Boston College had gone into the season with a perfect record was four games (4-0-0) in 2010-11.
HISTORIC DEFENSIVE RUN
The Eagles' current run of five shutouts in six games is the team's best defensive stretch in program history ... never before have the Eagles posted five clean sheets in six games ... the team's previous stingiest defensive run was four shutouts in five games, which occurred Nov. 15 through Nov. 25, 2014 ... in that stretch, BC allowed one goal in five games ... in the current stretch, the Eagles have surrendered one goal in six games.
SPREADING THE SCORING WEALTH
Through 10 games this season, 13 different players have scored goals for the Eagles and all 18 regular skaters have recorded points ... #1 Wisconsin has had 17 different players score goals, while #3 Minnesota has had 14 different players find the back of the net ... the Gophers have seen nine different players score at least 3 goals, while both BC and Wisconsin have eight different players score 3 or more goals this year.
STREAK'S STILL STRONG IN HOCKEY EAST
BC heads down on Commonwealth Ave. on Saturday riding a 29-game undefeated streak in regular-season conference play that dates back to the 2013-14 season ... the Eagles' last loss in league play was Feb. 8, 2014, a 2-0 setback at Connecticut ... since that loss, BC is 28-0-1 in regular-season action, including last year's 20-0-1 season ... since the start of the 2012-13 season (the majority of the senior class' freshman year), BC is 58-4-3 in regular-season conference games.
HOME STREAK STRETCHES ON
When Boston College returns home against Boston University next Tuesday, it will do so riding a 40-game home unbeaten run that dates back to Oct. 20, 2013 … in this current stretch, BC has gone 39-0-1 and won the last 34 games played at Kelley Rink ... the Eagles have out-scored their opponents 212-50 during the unbeaten run, averaging 5.30 goals per game while allowing just 1.25 ... the last time BC lost at Kelley Rink was Oct. 16, 2013, a 3-1 loss to New Hampshire.
EAGLES GET OUT OF THE GATES WELL ...
BC has scored 17 goals in the first period this year - the second-most among Hockey East teams behind Northeastern's 18 ... the Eagles have yet to allow a first-period goal this year, the best mark in HEA ... the Eagles' 17 first-period goals are more than three conference teams have scored so far this season (UConn - 15, UVM - 12, Providence - 6) ... Saturday's opponent, Boston University, has allowed 11 first-period goals, second-most in Hockey East.
... AND STAY HOT MIDDLE AND LATE
In addition to the team's 17 first-period goals, the Eagles have tallied 17 goals in the second period (tied for most in HEA) and 19 in the third period (the most in HEA) ... Boston College has scored 52 goals this season, the third-highest total in the country behind Minnesota (62 in 10 games) and Wisconsin (55 in 10 games) ... the Eagles' 5.30 goals per game average is third nationally behind the Gophers (6.20) and Badgers (5.50).
