HIGHLIGHTS
Boston College won the opening set and forced extra points in the second, but the Eagles were unable to capitalize on the early lead as Virginia Tech defeated the visiting Eagles 3-1 on Sunday afternoon on the day in which the Hokies honored their two seniors. Katty Workman and Julia Topor each tallied nine kills in the loss. BC returns home for their final two games of the season, beginning Wednesday at 1 p.m.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Set One:
Boston College took the opening set 25-17 on Sunday afternoon after they jumped out to a quick 9-1 lead. After the two squads exchanged the first two points, a service error and four straight attack errors gave way to the Eagles early. Workman and Sol Calvete each added kills as part of the run. BC extended their lead to as much as 10 in the set as they went up 1-0 on the Hokies.
Set Two:
The Eagles forced extra points in the second frame, but three straight attack errors on the final three points committed by the Maroon and Gold led to Virginia Tech evening the score at one all heading into the break. The set featured 12 tied scores and six lead changes. Trailing by four, 18-14, the Eagles worked to erase the deficit and eventually tied it several times coming down the stretch, but the visitors were unable to take advantage as the Hokies took the set 26-24.
Set Three:
Coming out of the break, the Hokies started the set on a 3-0 run and never looked back as they cruised to a 25-11 victory to go up 2-1 in the match over BC.
Set Four:
Boston College kept the fourth set close early, but a seven point lead halfway through the set was enough to guide Virginia Tech to a 25-16 win in the fourth set to take the win against the Eagles on their home court.
UP NEXT:
The Maroon and Gold will close out their 2015 campaign with two mid-week games at Power Gym this week. The Eagles will play host to #17 Louisville on Wednesday at 1 p.m. before closing out the season against Notre Dame on Friday.
