Team
- Boston College is now 9-14 Â in the all-time series with Notre Dame and 0-3 on a neutral field. Â The Irish won for the first time in the series when ranked in the top five as BC took the first two meetings. The Irish have also won the last five meetings. BC owns the longest win streak in the series at six games (2001-04, 07, 08).
- Boston College was shutout in the first half for the fourth time this season.
- It was the fifth time Boston College lost by three points or less this season.
Offense
- Freshman walk-on QB John Fadule made his second consecutive start of the season, throwing for 64 yards on 7-of-16 passing while rushing for 64 yards on eight carries.
- With 8:42 remaining in the third quarter, freshman QB Jeff Smith came into the game. Smith threw for 24 yards on 5-of-6 passing while adding a career-high 100 yards and a touchdown on five carries.
- Smith's 80-yd rushing TD was the longest run of his career, the longest offensive play from scrimmage for Boston College this season and the first run of over 80 yards since Nov. 9, 2013 when Andre Williams broke off an 80-yard run against New Mexico State.
- Smith became the second 100-yard rusher for the Eagles this season. Sophomore RB Jon Hilliman tallied 119 yards in the Northern Illinois game on Sept. 26.
Defense
- BC forced five turnovers (three interceptions and two forced fumbles) in the game. The last time BC forced five turnovers was August 31, 2013 against Villanova, in which Boston College forced two fumbles and tallied three interceptions.
- Sophomore LB Connor Strachan and senior DB Justin Simmons each recorded eight total tackles to lead the Eagles defense.
- Senior DB Justin Simmons recorded his first forced fumble and third fumble recovery of the season in the first quarter. He also added two interceptions to bring his season total to five and his career total to eight.
- Junior DB John Johnson recorded his second interception of the season, picking off ND QB DeShone Kizer in the end zone on Notre Dame's first drive of the game.
- Sophomore LB Connor Strachan matched his career high of 2.5 tackles for a loss and now has totaled 11.5 this season.
- Junior LBÂ Matt Milano's tallied his second forced fumble and his first fumble recovery of the season. He also added two tackles for a loss to increase his season total to 12.
- Notre Dame was four-for-seven on red-zone scoring opportunities. The three the Irish did not convert on the three attempts due to BC turnovers.
Special Teams
- Senior P/K Alex Howell broke the Boston College single-season record for punts with 85 punts, surpassing Ryan Quigley (2008-11), who recorded 79 in 2010. Howell punted nine times for 350 yards, including one inside the 20. This is the seventh time this season where Howell has tallied at least eight punts.
- Freshman WR Michael Walker returned four kick returns for 110 yards, including a career long 67-yard return to begin the second half.
- Senior WR David Dudeck recorded one kick returns for 14 yards. He now has two kick returns this season.
- Freshman K Colton Lichtenburg recorded his second career field goal in the third quarter, a 43-yard attempt. He was 1-1 on FG attempts on the evening. He was also 1-1 on PATs.
