NCAA Tournament Bracket
BC HOSTS VERMONT IN NCAA FIRST ROUND
• Boston College will host Vermont in the first round of the NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Championship on Thursday at 6 p.m. at the Newton Campus Field.
• The Eagles (9-7-1, 4-4-0 ACC) earned an at-large bid to the field with the help of its No. 15 RPI. Vermont (11-6-3, 3-2-2 America East) earned an automatic bid to the tournament after winning the America East title against Binghamton.
• Boston College has lost four of its last five outings, including a 3-0 setback at Clemson in the ACC Tournament on November 8.
• The Catamounts have won their last three matches and are 6-1-2 in their last nine outings.
• Vermont is 7-3-2 all-time in this series and has won the last four contests. However, the two teams have not met since 1988.
BC IN THE NCAA TOURNAMENT
• The Eagles are making their 13th appearance in the NCAA Championship. Head coach Ed Kelly has led BC to 12 of those tournament appearances, earning bids in 1990, 2000-02, 2004, 2007-12 and 2015.
• Boston College has a 5-10-3 all-time record in NCAA Tournament action. It is 1-2 in penalty kick shootouts.
• The Eagles are looking to make their first ever appearance in the College Cup, which will be held at Sporting Park in Kansas City, Kansas.
• BC reached the quarterfinals of the NCAA Championship in 2002 before losing to Creighton. It also advanced to the third round of the tournament in 2009 before falling to Drake.
EAGLES FALL IN ACC TOURNAMENT AT CLEMSON
• Austin Burnikel scored in the 38th minute and No. 2 Clemson tacked on two more goals in the second half to defeat BC, 3-0, in the quarterfinals of the ACC Championship on November 8.
• Clemson took all 11 shots in the first half and Burnikel scored on the ninth attempt in the 38th minute. Iman Mafi sent a cross into the box from the left side and Burnikel put a header into the lower left corner to put the Tigers on top.
• BC tried to tally the equalizer early in the second half as senior Dylan Pritchard and sophomore Mohammed Moro both got shots on goal, but Clemson keeper Andrew Tarbell saved them both.
• The Tiger lead became two goals in the 57th minute thanks to a BC own goal.
• Clemson sealed the win in the 68th minute when John Cajka sent a through ball into the box to Kyle Murphy, who finished it from 12 yards out to seal the win.
THE GREEN TEAM
• Boston College sports 14 freshmen on its 2015 roster, the most of any team in the ACC.
• North Carolina and Pittsburgh have 11 freshmen on their squads while NC State and Syracuse have 10.
• Ten of the 14 freshmen have seen time on the pitch.
• Freshman Trevor Davock is second on the team in goals (5) and assists (5), and is third in points (15). His three game-winning goals are also tied for the team best.
• Simon Enstrom leads the Eagles with seven goals and 17 points, and he also has three game-winners.
• Freshmen Derek Lyons and Tommy Garcia-Morillo both scored a goal in a 4-1 win at Virginia Tech.
• Freshman Abe Bibas scored a goal at Virginia Tech and also has an assist.
• Freshman Joshua Forbes has also recorded an assist.
• 48 of BC's 70 points - 71 percent - have come from freshmen and sophomores.
ENSTROM'S & DAVOCK'S NUMBERS
• Freshmen Simon Enstrom and Trevor Davock are two of the top three scorers on Boston College this season.
• Enstrom leads the Eagles with seven goals and 17 points. He also has three assists. He has two goals and an assist in the last two matches.
• He played a part in both goals in BC's 2-1 win against Syracuse on October 30.
• Enstrom ranks eighth in the ACC in goals and 12th in points.
• Davock is second on the team in goals (5) and assists (5), and is third in points (15).
• He had nine points in five matches spanning from September 11-25.
• Davock ranks 10th in the ACC in assists.
LEWIS GETS HOT
• Junior Zeiko Lewis leads Boston College with six assists and is second with five goals and 16 points.
• He set career highs with two goals and five points in a 3-1 win against Connecticut on September 22.
• He ranks fifth in the ACC in assists and 13th in points.
• Lewis has been a crucial part of the BC offense the last three seasons. His 20 career assists rank fifth all-time at Boston College.
• As a freshman, he earned numerous honors including: NSCAA All-South Atlantic Second Team, ACC Freshman of the Year, All-ACC Second Team, All-ACC Freshman Team and Soccer America All-Freshman First Team.
• Lewis led the ACC in assists (11) and assists per game (0.61) that year, and ranked 10th in the conference in points (17).
• He ranked third in the country in assists per game and fourth in assists.
• Last year, Lewis was an All-ACC Second Team player with three goals and three assists.
ENSTROM EMERGES
• Freshman Simon Enstrom scored seven of his 17 points in two matches against Boston University and #23 SMU.
• He scored twice in Boston College's 3-2 win at BU on August 31. He scored in the 16th minute and notched the game-winner to break a 2-2 tie in the 80th minute.
• He then recorded a goal and an assist in the Eagles' 4-2 upset win over #23 SMU.
• Enstrom notched his second two-goal game this season when he struck twice in a 2-1 victory over #10 Virginia.
AMPADU'S TWO GOALS
• Senior Atobra Ampadu got his first start of the season against #23 SMU and made it count.
• He scored the Eagles' first two goals just 25 seconds apart to give BC a 2-1 lead in the 24th minute. It was his first two-goal game at Boston College.
• After the Mustangs scored the match's first goal in the 13th minute, Ampadu equalized the match 10 minutes later. He took a pass from freshman Simon Enstrom and sent a cross near the goal line from the right side. The keeper got to it, but deflected it into the back of his own net to make it 1-1.
• Just 25 seconds later, Ampadu had a brilliant strike from more than 30 yards away that beat the diving keeper to give BC a 2-1 lead.
KELLY GETS WIN 300
• Head coach Ed Kelly recorded his 300th career victory with a 2-1 win against #12 Syracuse on October 30.
• He is the 19th active coach and the third in the ACC with 300 career coaching victories.
• Kelly has a career record of 300-217-61 in his 31st year of coaching collegiate soccer. His record at BC is 260-204-55 in his 28th season.
• He currently ranks 41st all-time in coaching wins.
