Eagles defeated 3-0 against top-3 ACC opponent

HIGHLIGHTS
Katty Workman totaled nine kills and seven digs, but the Eagles fell to 1-8 in conference play after being defeated by third place Miami (13-6, 6-3 ACC) on the road Friday night by a final score of 3-0. Julia Topor also recorded nine kills and a .381 hitting percentage in the losing effort, which saw the Eagles battle to the final points of each set.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Set One:
After the two squads split the first eight points evenly, the Hurricanes began a 4-0 run behind two forced attack errors, a service ace and a Miami kill to take the 8-4 lead. Workman rebounded with the two kills of her home while the BC defense forced an additional two attack errors from the home team to even the score at eight early in the opening frame.With the score knotted at 12-all, the Green and Orange began their second notable run, this one an 8-3 tally, to extend their largest least of the set to five points, 20-15. Once again, the Eagles showed no quit and pulled the score within one after another pair of kills from Topor, a Madisen Lydon service ace. and an added kill from freshman McKenna Goss to make it 22-21. The foes would split each of the next four points as the Maroon and Gold trailed 24-23, and a kill from Miami's Kolby Bird ended the first set as Miami took it, 25-23.
Set Two:
Despite three early tied scores, Miami had the better of the two squads in the second set, winning 25-20. After the Eagles pulled within one point of the lead, trailing 10-9, Miami went on a 9-2 run to jump out to a 19-11 lead. BC cut into the lead, firing off four of the next five points to pull within 20-16 behind two forced attack errors and a Camille Oemcke service ace, but the Hurricanes were too much as Miami's Alexis Mourning and Kolby Bird ended the set with a combined block.
Set Three:
After the break, Miami jumped out to an early 7-2 lead that carried them the remainder of the final set Friday evening. UM held leads of 10-5, 16-10, 21-15 before the final score of 25-19. Workman and Topor each tallied three kills in the final set while the senior pair of Workman and Kam McLain combined on a block in the final set.

Boston College finishes up their quick two-game road trip on Sunday afternoon when they travel to Tallahassee, Fla. to take on No.17 Florida State, a game that can be seen on ESPN3. Start time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
