HOW IT HAPPENED:
Set One:
Following a 9-3 deficit early in the frame, Sol Calvete connected on a powerful solo block that created momentum for the Eagles against Syracuse Wednesday evening. Following the block, BC continued to fight back and were able to take their first lead of the match on their 14th point on a kill from Julia Topor [from Mallori Moffat]. Brittany Pavich and Calvete each got in on the action as they both tallied kills on two of the next three points. After Syracuse had regained the lead, the Orange committed a net violation that allowed the Eagles to tie it back up at 17-all. Following a BC timeout, McKenna Goss and Calvete both recorded a kill to bring the score within one, but the Orange were too strong as they held off the Eagles 25-21.
Set Two:
Boston College dropped the second set 25-15, despite an early 3-0 lead behind two forced attack errors and a service ace from Camille Oemcke. With the score tied at six, 'Cuse went on a 12-3 run to bump the score to 18-9, and after a forced ball handling error, an attack error and a Calvete kill, the Orange took three of the remaining five points in the second frame as the Maroon and Gold went into the break trailing 2-0 in the match.
Set Three:
In the third set, Syracuse took the first point and never trailed, winning the set 25-16 behind five kills from Syracuse's Nicollete Serratore (.455). Katty Workman led the Eagles with four kills (.300 hitting percentage) in the third set. With the set even at 5-apiece, Syracuse began a 9-1 run to extend their lead to 14-9 before finishing on an 9-7 run to ensure the victory. In the thirs set, Kam McLain tallied three kills in a block in addition to Workman's four.
