Eagles close the weekend against Dartmouth on Sunday
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The women's tennis team wrapped up play at the Yale Invitational on Sunday, facing Dartmouth.
In doubles, BC claimed a pair of wins as Katya Vasilyev and Emily Safron teamed to defeat Katherine Yau and Julia Schroeder, 8-7 (5). Jennifer Ren and Jacqueline Urbinati also won, topping Julienne Keong and Allison Chuang 8-3. In the final doubles match, Wan-Yi Sweeting and Heini Salonen fell to the team of Jacqueline Crawford and Suzy Tan.
In singles, Safron earned a 6-2, 6-0 winover Sarah Bessen at the No. 3 singles, while Sweeting drew a 7-5, 6-4 victory over Tan in the No. 5 spot. In other matches, Ren fell to Schroeder 6-2, 6-2 in the No. 2 spot and Urbinati lost a 6-2, 6-0 match to Chuang at No. 4 singles.
"Overall we had a pretty good weekend," women's tennis head coach Nigel Bentley said. "I thought Katya showed a lot of composure and mental toughness and had two very good wins. Jenny executed her all-court game in a good win against a solid player from Brown. And it was encouraging to see Emily, Wan Yi and Jackie all play well and earn wins."
BC competed at Yale without Lexi Borr and Asiya Dair, who spent last week in California playing at the Riviera/ITA All-American.
The Eagles return to action on Thursday, Oct. 22, when they begin play in the ITA Northeast Regional, which will be competed in Hanover, N.H., at Dartmouth.
