Hamilton, N.Y. - No. 11 Boston College field hockey (7-1) defeated Colgate University, 6-3, for the team's sixth victory in a row. Five different Boston College players scored against the Raiders to amass a season-high six goals. Boston College controlled the attack, outshooting Colgate, 22-5, and forcing goalkeeper Amanda Didomizio to make 14 saves.
"First off a congratulations to Colgate staff and players for playing a fantastic game. I was very impressed by the players' fight and heart right down to the last second of the game.
"It is always challenging to play back-to-back games. We are fortunate to have great depth in the team and can utilize that strength in our program to win games with all 25 players contributing," said head coach Ainslee Lamb.
Senior midfielder Emma Plasteras scored her second goal of the season just two minutes into the game off her own rebound.
Sophomore forward Eryn McCoy gave the Eagles a 2-0 lead with her second goal of the year seven minutes into the game, forcing a Colgate timeout. Two BC goals were scored within a six minute span.
Colgate's Eliana Brown brought the Raiders back within one 11 minutes into the game on the transition. Junior goalkeeper Leah Settipane made the save on the first shot, but Brown netted the rebound.
Colgate evened the score at two after its first corner opportunity on a top shelf shot past Settipane. Eighty seconds separated the two Raider goals.
Senior midfielder Katlyn Soucy, with her first goal of the season, put the Eagles back ahead, 3-2, off a corner with nine minutes left in the first half.
Colgate's Whitney Jones tied the game with just two minutes left in the first 35 to send the teams into halftime even at three goals apiece.
Boston College applied heavy pressure from the start of the second half, possessing the ball in the Raiders' end and peppering Colgate with 14 shots.
After their sixth corner of the game, the Eagles went ahead, 4-3. Sophomore forward Leah Frome followed up on a rebound to beat Colgate goalie Amanda Didomizio on the right side for her first goal of the season.
The Eagles capitalized on their eighth penalty corner opportunity to increase their lead to 5-3 on Emma Plasteras' second goal of the game assisted by junior Romee Stiekema. Freshman forward Brooke Matherson scored her second career goal off a pass by junior forward AshLeigh Sebia to make it 6-3, Boston College.
"The team continues to make critical improvements and implementing half time adjustments that are positioning the team to excel in the second half of the game. Our next step in making changes on the move and reading the game in the first half sooner," said Lamb.
With their sixth consecutive win, the Eagles have put together their longest win streak since 2009, when BC won its first six games of the season.
"Overall the team is in a very good place for this point in the season. Certainly building off the teams success over the past week helps. We will continue to make adjustments and focus on a good week of preparation for the upcoming games," Lamb said.
