Chestnut Hill, Mass. - The Boston College football team hosts the University of Maine in a non-conference matchup at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Alumni Stadium. The game will be broadcast on ESPN3 and WEEI 93.7 FM, as well as the BC IMG Sports Radio network.
The Eagles (2-1) look to build on the momentum after upsetting No. 9 Southern California on Sept. 13 in a 37-31 victory at The Heights. Graduate quarterback Tyler Murphy, graduate center Andy Gallik and senior linebacker Josh Keyes earned Atlantic Coast Conference Players of the Week for their performances against the Trojans.
Murphy rushed for a career-high 191 yards, which was the second-highest total by a quarterback in ACC history. He scored a rushing TD for the third straight game and tallied over 100 yards on the ground for the second time in 2014 and in his career. Gallik led the offensive line, starting in his 31st career game, as the Eagles rushed for 452 yards and totaled 506 yards on the day with five touchdowns against a USC defense that had allowed just 285 total rushing yards over the first two games. For the second time in 2014, Gallik led an offensive line that helped the Eagles to a 500-yard offensive output. Keyes helped lead the Eagles defense as the Trojans could only pick up 20 rushing yards on the night. Keyes recorded eight total tackles, including 5.5 tackles for a loss and a sack.
The Black Bears (1-1) are coming off a 13-10 loss to Bryant. They opened the season with a 10-6 win over Norfolk State.
This marked the eighth meeting between Boston College and Maine. The first five contests between the two schools came before 1930. The Eagles and the Black Bears last squared off in 2012 when BC defeated Maine, 34-3, allowing the Black Bears just a field goal. Maine took the first three matchups, winning on home turf, but the Eagles have won the last four consecutive and have only allowed the three points, outscoring Maine, 154-3.
The Eagles have played a Football Championship Subdivision team once in each season since 2006. BC is 8-0 against FCS schools.
