Chestnut Hill, Mass. - The Boston College football team looks to capitalize off the momentum from the win over ninth-ranked Southern California on Saturday as the Eagles prepare for a matchup with Maine on Saturday. Head coach Steve Addazio continued with intense practices preparation for the New England tilt. The game will kick off at 1 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN3 and WEEI 93.7 FM.Selected student-athletes spoke after practice.
Graduate OL Bobby Vardaro
On comparing the performances versus Pitt and USC...
"It was honestly the next week at practice. We came out a lot harder, we studied a lot harder, we just did everything a lot better than we did the week before. We were a little more lax coming off the UMass win, but we knew that we had a big job ahead of us last week and we got it done."
Graduate OL Andy Gallik
On practice leading up to the USC game...
"Coach Addazio came up with a great week of practice planned for us and we went good-on-good a lot. I think that as we were banging heads, going full speed, full contact, it built up a game like atmosphere every day in practice. So that when we were under the bright lights it was almost like we were playing the game every day of the week and we didn't miss a beat, so that helped us the most."
On the 452 rushing yards the Eagles put up against USC...
"I take a lot of pride in it. Myself and Bobby, who returned from last year, are used to it because of Andre [Williams] and the things we did that season. But to have numbers like last season duplicated this year, that's what makes us happy. Knowing that as an offensive line, we did our job on that ground attack. That's our goal every week: To run the ball as well as we can and as efficient as we can. The better the numbers at the end of the game, the better our performance was."
Freshman RB Jon Hilliman
On the running backs as a group...
"We try not to get distracted and take it one play at a time. If one of us breaks we're all happy because that's six points for everybody. We're just a selfless group. We're going out working, trying to get better every day."
On avoiding a letdown versus Maine...
"Well, it comes from practice. We have to come out and have a great week like we did leading up to USC. It's going to have to be predicated in practice. Seniors have to lead and freshmen have to grow up and know that we have a great opponent in Maine."
Graduate QB Tyler Murphy
On the practices leading up to Maine...
"Right now we're trying to just focus and get back to square one. It was very fun on Saturday and that's something we'll never forget, but we have to put it in the back of our heads now and refocus."
On building on the success from Saturday...
"We have to just figure out what we did right and continue to do that. I think we were very focused and we played with tremendous effort, we didn't take a play off. If things didn't go our way we just kept going and we have to continue to do that. This week is big for us because people are wondering what kind of BC team they're going to get. Are we going to get the team from two weeks ago when we played Pitt on Friday or are we going to get the team that beat USC on Saturday? It's going to be a challenge. Maine is a very good team."
On seizing the day at practice...
"You strive to be perfect and that's hard to do. That's what motivates us, especially myself. I haven't come close to perfect, so that's something that gets you motivated when you wake up in the morning. You only have a few opportunities, we have 12 games this year and only nine left, so that's kind of scary. You have to take advantage of it."
