Field Hockey Falls to Lafayette, 4-2

Hamden, Conn. - Boston College field hockey fell to Lafayette in the second game of the Longstreth/Bobcat Classic Saturday afternoon. The Leopards (1-0) tallied four goals to edge the Eagles (1-1), 4-2.

Lafayette struck early at the six minute mark on an unassisted goal by Amanda Magadan, but the Eagles answered quickly after. Off a penalty corner insertion by senior midfielder Emma Plasteras, sophomore forward Eryn McCoy fired a shot, which was blocked by Lafayette goalie Jessica Deutsch. Junior forward Kelcie Hromisin pushed the ball along the baseline on the rebound and netted a goal at the ten minute mark to even the score at one.

Lafayette, quick on the transition, scored at the 12 minute mark to put the Leopards up, 2-1. Sophomore forward Brittany Sheenan put the ball in the net late in the first half, but the goal was called back. Junior midfielder Romee Stiekema contributed a defensive save in the first 35 minutes to keep the Leopards' lead to one. At the end of the first half, Lafayette tallied six shots against BC's four. Goalie Leah Settipane made three saves, including a diving save with five minutes left in the half.

"We made some adjustments to the press at half time that the players implemented well. We addressed the work rate and decision making with the Lafayette pressure. We certainly executed both better in the second half," said head coach Ainslee Lamb.

Coming out strong in the second half, the Leopards scored on a penalty corner stick stop play with 32 minutes to go. Despite peppering Lafayette goalie Deustch with 11 shots in the second half, the Eagles only netted one unassisted goal by Brittany Sheenan, her second of the season, with 13 minutes left.

"Even with seven minutes left in the game I still believed we could at least tie up the score even with being two goals down," Lamb said.

The Eagles forced Deustch to make seven saves, while junior goalkeeper Leah Settipane tallied five saves during the game. After the first two games of the season, Settipane has made seven total saves.

"This week will require some regrouping and essentially resetting for a critical regional game on Friday," said Lamb.

Boston College continues the action at Providence Sep. 5 at 7 p.m.
