Today and continuing for each of the next nine weeks leading up to the season opener against Massachusetts at Gillette Stadium on Aug. 30, www.bceagles.com is highlighting the Eagles’ 2014 opponents. This week, continuing to work in reverse chronological order, we are featuring the Virginia Tech, which has played Boston College annually since 1993. The Eagles travel to Blacksburg on Saturday, Nov. 1. Below, and coming on Thursdays of each week, is a sampling of some news and notes from the series between the teams.

THIS NOVEMBER
- Boston College and Virginia Tech have met annually since 1993.
- The Eagles and Hokies, cross-divisional rivals since the two schools joined the ACC in July 2005, have played twice in one season in both 2007 and 2008, as Boston College won the Atlantic division of the ACC in each of those years and Virginia Tech won the Coastal division. Although the Eagles defeated the Hokies in both the regular seasons of 2007 and 2008, Virginia Tech won the 2007 and 2008 ACC Championship Game contested between the two schools.
- This November’s Boston College-Virginia Tech game will mark the 23rd meeting between the teams in the all-time series. Virginia Tech holds a 15-7 advantage.
- Since joining the Atlantic Coast Conference, the Eagles are 4-7 against Virginia Tech, including a 3-2 record at Alumni Stadium in Chestnut Hill, Mass.
DEFINING MOMENTS IN SERIES:
- Second-ranked Boston College traveled to rain-soaked Lane Stadium in Blacksburg and the Eagles emerged with a 14-10 victory after quarterback Matt Ryan led consecutive touchdown drives late in the fourth quarter to lift the Eagles to an 8-0 record.
- Last November, running back Andre Williams rushed for a pair of touchdowns and linebacker Kevin Pierre-Louis registered a 33-yard interception return for touchdown midway into the fourth quarter to capture a 34-27 home win over the Hokies, snapping a five-game losing streak in the series.
