Smithfield, RI - Freshman Tatiana Cortez hit two three-run home runs to lead Boston College past Bryant University, 6-3, in a non-conference game at Conaty Park in Smithfield on Thursday afternoon. Boston College improved to 15-10, while Bryant is now 10-12.

Cortez, a native of Houston, Texas, went 2-for-3 with two homeruns and six RBIs on the day. Senior Tori Speer went 2-for-2 with two singles, two runs and a walk. Senior pitcher Nicole D'Argento pitched six innings and struck out eight on her way to her ninth victory of the season.

In the second inning, BC jumped out to a, 3-0, lead behind a three-run blast from Cortez. It was her seventh homerun of the season. The inning opened up when Speer walked and advanced to second on a single up the middle by freshman Taylor Coroneos. Bryant closed the gap with two runs on a two-out single by Liana Orgata in the fourth inning.

D'Argento helped her own cause when she opened the fifth inning with a walk. Pinch runner Nicole Koszowski advanced to second on a single up the middle by Speer. After a fielder's choice by Coroneos got the lead runner and with one out, Cortez stepped to the plate. This time Cortez hit the three-run homerun over the left-center field fence and the Eagles held a, 6-2, lead.

It was her eighth home run and Cortez now has a team-high 29 RBIs.

A homerun closed the gap to, 6-3, on a homerun by Elle Madsen. D'Argento struck out the next batter. She yielded a single but ended the inning with two strikeouts.

The Eagles will head out to Blacksburg, Virginia to play Virginia Tech in a three-game series this weekend. The two teams will play a double-header on Saturday, March 29 at 1 and 3 p.m. with the final game on Sunday, March 30 at noon.
