December 08, 2014 | Football
Chestnut Hill, Mass. - Boston College graduate student Andy Gallik was named one of the six finalists for the 2014 Rimington Trophy, presented to the most outstanding center in college football.
Gallik, a four-year starter for the Eagles (7-5, 4-4 ACC), was voted a team captain in 2014 and was named to the All-ACC ASCMA First Team. He is a 10-time BC offensive game champion and registered 40 blocks this season.
The 6-foot-3, 304-pound Evergreen Park, Ill., native leads the BC offensive line that has allowed the rush game to flourish, ranking 14th in the nation with 251.8 yards/game. The Eagles racked up over 500 yards of offense three times and over 400 yards five times. He earned ACC Offensive Lineman of the Week honors after the Eagles defeated then ninth-ranked Southern California as the Eagles rushed for 452 yards and five touchdowns. He has also helped the BC backs rush for 100 yards in seven games this season. The O line allowed just 20 sacks through 12 games.
Earlier in the season, Gallik was named to Phil Steele's Midseason All-ACC Team and in 2013, he was a member of the All-ACC Second Team. He has accepted an invitation to play in the 2015 Reese's Senior Bowl on Jan. 24 in Mobile, Ala.
The other Rimington Trophy finalists include Jack Allen of Michigan State, David Andrews of Georgia, Reece Dismukes of Auburn, B.J. Finney of Kansas State and Hroniss Grasu of Oregon.
The winner of the Rimington Trophy will be presented live during the ESPNU Red Carpet Show on Dec. 11, immediately preceding the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards Show. Both shows will originate from the Atlantic Dance Hall on Disney's Boardwalk at the Walt Disney World Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Fla.
The winner of the Rimington Trophy is selected by determining the consensus All-American center pick from three existing All-America teams. The Rimington Trophy committee uses the Walter Camp Foundation, Sporting News and Football Writers Association of America All-America teams to determine a winner.
The winner will be recognized at the Rimington Trophy Presentation at the Rococo Theatre in Lincoln, Neb., on Jan. 17.
