Football Awaits Bowl Announcement Sunday
December 05, 2014 | Football
On Sunday night, the Boston College football team will learn where it's headed for its final game of the 2014 season.
After the College Football Playoff announces its four playoff participants and then the remaining New Year's Day bowl teams earlier in the afternoon, the Atlantic Coast Conference will announce where its remaining bowl-eligible teams are headed during a special live stream on theACC.com at 5:30 p.m.
The Eagles are trying to wait patiently until Sunday night, regrouping for practice to close the week and staying focused on the still-mystery opponent awaiting them in a few weeks.
But even before the bowl, location, game date and opponent are announced, the Eagles are excited to be in the mix.
"It's definitely big to get back to another bowl game for the program," graduate quarterback Tyler Murphy said on Thursday at the team's media availability. "Hopefully we can get a bowl game win and go 8-5, which would improve from last year's record of 7-6."
Under second-year head coach Steve Addazio, Boston College equaled its regular-season record - 7-5 - in his first year at the helm in 2013. And while BC returned to the postseason last year, the school is still hunting its first bowl win since 2007, the last of eight consecutive bowl victories dating back to 2000.
With one game left in 2014, BC hopes to improve not only its year-over-year record, but also claim its first bowl win in five trips.
We know the Eagles are going to a bowl, but everything else is up in the air.
The ACC has partnerships with the Orange Bowl (Miami Gardens, Florida), Russell Athletic Bowl (Orlando, Florida.), Belk Bowl (Charlotte, North Carolina), Pinstripe Bowl (New York, New York), Sun Bowl (El Paso, Texas), TaxSlayer Bowl (Jacksonville, Florida), Music City Bowl (Nashville, Tennessee), Military Bowl (Annapolis, Maryland), Independence Bowl (Shreveport, Louisiana) and QuickLane Bowl (Detroit).
Any one of those destinations could be ahead for Boston College ... or Florida State (12-0), Georgia Tech (10-2), Duke (9-3), Clemson (9-3), Louisville (9-3), N.C. State (7-5), North Carolina (6-6), Pittsburg (6-6), Miami (6-6) or Virginia Tech (6-6), all of whom are bowl eligible this season. Florida State and Georgia Tech are set to meet Saturday night in the ACC Championship Game.
For senior linebacker Sean Duggan, though, the only thing that matters - with all the talk, all the speculation and all the conjecture about the potential bowl - is that the Eagles are playing in one and that they can represent the school in one final game.
"To go up against the best is what you want to do, especially guys who it's our last time to put on a BC uniform," Duggan said. "We want to go out and play the best team we can and try to showcase our ability for the last time."
Sunday night at 5:30 p.m., we'll find out just when, where and against whom that last time will be.
