New AstroTurf Surface Installed In Newton

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Newton Campus Soccer Field received a facelift in the middle of the 2014 season as AstroTurf installed its state-of-the-art 3D60H artificial playing surface. The project was completed on October 18.
AstroTurf surfaces were also installed in Alumni Stadium during a 2012 renovation and at the field hockey complex in Newton this past summer.
AstroTurf 3D60H combines the innovative Horseshoe fiber with AstroTurf's patented RootZone technology. The Horseshoe fiber refers to the omega-shaped "blades of grass" which cover the playing surface and offer a high degree of resiliency because the fiber bounces back and holds its shape longer than a traditional monofilament fiber. The RootZone® is AstroTurf's infill stabilization system, a crimped layer of fibers which holds the sand and rubber infill in place to radically reduce infill migration, splash, and deep-cleat penetration. The result is clean, consistent playing surface that garners high marks for player performance, ball roll, safety, durability and aesthetics.
Complete removal and disposal of the old surface was done in a day and a half, and the total installation of the new field was done in six working days.

Thursday, September 25 - Initial call and contracting
Friday, September 26 - Manufacturing of 96,000 square feet of AstroTurf 3D60H begins
Monday, September 29 - Removal and disposal of old field begins
Tuesday, September 30 - Removal and disposal complete
Friday, October 10 - AstroTurf field delivered and installation begins
Saturday, October 18 - Field complete
