Chestnut Hill, Mass. - The Boston College football team travels to Tallahassee, Fla., to take on top-ranked Florida State on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. The game will be broadcast on ESPN2 and ABC. WEEI 93.7 FM and the BC IMG Radio Network will also carry the game.
This will be the 13th meeting between Boston College and Florida State and the 11th since the Eagles (6-4, 3-3 ACC) joined the Atlantic Coast Conference in 2005. The Seminoles (10-0, 7-0 ACC) own an 8-4 advantage in the all-time series and have won the last four straight contests between the two ACC Atlantic Division opponents. The Eagles are 3-7 against the Noles since joining the ACC and 2-3 in Tallahassee all-time.
This year's contest will be the first time the Eagles will face the Seminoles when FSU is ranked in the top five. BC is 1-4 against the Noles when they are ranked in the AP Poll. The lone win came in 2008, when the Eagles defeated No. 20 FSU, 27-17, in Tallahassee. In 2007, the Eagles were ranked second in the country and undefeated when the Noles completed a 27-17 upset in Alumni Stadium. Last year, prior to the BCS National Championship Game, BC had recorded the smallest deficit against FSU in a 48-34 loss in Chestnut Hill.
Boston College has faced the AP Poll's No. 1-ranked team four times in the history of the football program. They are 1-3 in those meetings. The Eagles lost to a top-ranked Miami team three times: 1991 (19-14), 2001 (18-7) and 2002 (38-6). The upset came against No. 1 Notre Dame on Nov. 20, 1993 when the 17th-ranked Eagles beat the Irish, 41-39, on a last-second field goal.
Head coach Steve Addazio has faced Florida State seven times in his coaching career, coming away with a 5-2 record. He was part of a Florida staff that won five of the six meetings against their in-state rivals, winning from 2005 to 2009.
The Eagles are coming off a bye week after falling, 38-19, to Louisville on Nov. 8. After each of the three losses in 2014, BC has responded with a win in the following game. The Eagles have outscored the opponent following a loss, 90-62, and outrushed them, 964-82. BC has also tallied 11 rushing TDs while giving up just three. In total, the Eagles have amassed 1,284 total yards of offense while allowing 815 in the three wins. The BC defense has also sacked its opponents 13 times while the BC offensive line has allowed just one sack in the three games. Two of BC's three wins following a loss came on the road as well.
Eagle Record Beakers
Graduate quarterback Tyler Murphy is just 50 yards away from tying the Atlantic Coast Conference record for single-season rushing yards by a quarterback, set by Clemson's Woodrow Dantzler in 2001. The Connecticut native has amassed 1,011 rushing yards on the year - the most among QBs in the nation - surpassing Eagle great Doug Flutie for the most in BC history.
Freshman running back Jon Hilliman is looking to make history of his own. He is 19 rush attempts away from tying Montel Harris for the most by a freshman at BC. Harris also owns the rookie record for rushing yards with 920. Hilliman currently has 620 and is tied for 12th on BC's single-season record list with 11 rushing touchdowns.
Sophomore running back Myles Willis is 100 return yards shy of tying for fourth on BC's career list for kickoff return yards.
