In 2013, eighth-ranked Florida State rolled in to Chestnut Hill 3-0 on the season and out-scoring its opponents, 157-26. But in late September, the Seminoles ran into a determined, disciplined Boston College team that delivered one of the toughest outings during their undefeated, national championship campaign.
The two teams are set to meet again on Saturday in a nationally-televised game (ABC regional/ESPN2) at Doak Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee at 3:30 p.m.
The newly-minted No. 1 Seminoles enter the game riding a 26-game winning streak spanning three seasons, but the Eagles have confidence - in themselves and their preparation.
Coming off a bye week, Boston College (6-4, 3-3 ACC) has had an extra week to prepare for Florida State (10-0, 7-0 ACC), who narrowly defeated Miami (Fla.) on the road last Saturday, 30-26.
"We have to keep preparing hard and utilize our jumpstart and bye week as an advantage," BC head coach Steve Addazio said Monday afternoon. "We have to take care of ourselves and we have to go down there and play our football. I feel great about our opportunity to go down there.
"I think that we have played a lot of really good football teams this year. We played a tough schedule this year ... We're not going to be shocked because we're playing another good football team," Addazio said.
And for Addazio, the game plan is simple: Do your job.
"We have to keep our mistakes to a minimum - turnovers, penalties and just flat mistakes," he said. "We can't play that way and think we would have an opportunity to win this game. So the challenge for our team is to play a really hard, really physical brand of football and play a high execution level of football."
What's he talking about? Playing BC football, minimize mistakes and take advantage of opportunities:
"That's our challenge: to worry about us," Addazio said. "Have a good game plan, execute the plan, don't turn the ball over and execute at a high level on both sides. If we do that, we'll put ourselves in a good position to win the game in the fourth quarter."
