Durham, N.H. – No. 1 Boston College women’s hockey defeated New Hampshire, 5-0, at Whittemore Arena to complete the regular-season sweep of the Wildcats. BC has shut out UNH in all three of its meetings this season. The Eagles (11-0-1, 7-0-0 WHEA) remain undefeated and extended their win streak to nine games after their victory over New Hampshire.
The Eagles were first to strike in the opening frame. Six minutes into the first period, junior defenseman Lexi Bender carried the puck deep into the Wildcats zone and found junior Haley Skarupa, who redirected it to put the Eagles up, 1-0
Skarupa’s sixth minute goal was the only score of the first period and BC headed into the first intermission holding a 1-0 lead over the Wildcats.
Early in the second period, the Eagles went on their third power play of the day. Sophomore Andie Anastos registered a dangerous shot that ricocheted off a UNH post, but the ‘Cats fended off BC’s man advantage.
With eight minutes remaining in the second frame, Skarupa came up with her second goal of the day, finding the back of the net on a backhanded shot in a 3-on-1 situation in another Eagle power play.
Late in the middle frame, junior forward Alex Carpenter extended the Boston College lead to 3-0, netting her 12th goal of the season on a feed from Skarupa. Carpenter’s goal would send the Eagles into the locker room with a three-goal lead after two periods.
In the third period, junior defenseman Lexi Bender sent a puck past UNH goaltender Vilma Vaattovaara for BC’s fourth goal of the day.
Senior forward Emily Pfalzer added a power play goal, the Eagles’ second of the day on eight power play opportunities, to bring the final score to 5-0, Boston College.
