BC ENDS REGULAR SEASON AT #3 SYRACUSE
• Boston College will travel to #3 Syracuse on Halloween night to take on the Orange in the final regular season match of the year.
• The Eagles hosted Syracuse last year in Newton and came away with a 3-2 victory.
• BC has lost its last two outings against North Carolina and Dartmouth. Both times it was held scoreless.
• Syracuse has one loss in its last 11 matches. It played to a scoreless draw last weekend at NC State.
BC FALLS TO DARTMOUTH
• Alex Adelabu scored with 26 seconds left in regulation to lead Dartmouth past Boston College, 1-0, on Tuesday night in a non-conference game at the Newton Soccer Field.
• Boston College had five shots in the game while Dartmouth had 18, including 13 in the second half. Dartmouth had a 5-2 edge in corner kicks.
• The story of the night for BC was the play of senior goalkeeper Keady Segel, making his season debut. He made two saves in the first half and managed to make five in the second.
• Just five minutes into the match, Segel made a save on Adelabu who broke into the box off a bouncing ball. Segel came out and cut the angle down and deflected the ball out of the area.
• In the second half, the Dartmouth offense kept the pressure on the Eagles' defense. In the 47th minute of the match, Emory Orr had a shot inside the six-yard line and Segel turned it away. Off the rebound, Giorgia Gorini's shot was smothered by Segel and cleared out of the box.
• With 15 minutes left in the match, Adelabu was on the far side of the goal at the end of a cross from the left side. He slid but the shot went just wide.
• Dartmouth kept coming at BC as Robin Alnas nearly scored as he went near post with four minutes to play. Segel came out to cut the angle down, which sent the shot just wide of the post.
• With two minutes left, Gabe Stauber broke into the box but again, Segel was there and he collided with the Dartmouth forward but made the save. After a stoppage of time, Dartmouth responded with a goal by Adelabu off a cross from Alnas. The Dartmouth forward one-timed the pass for his sixth goal of the season.
• BC's offense never generated a threat to the Dartmouth defense. The Eagles only shot on goal came in the first half by senior Diego Medina-Mendez.
LAST TIME vs. SYRACUSE
• Matt Wendelken and Diego Medina-Mendez both recorded a goal and an assist to lead Boston College past Syracuse, 3-2, on October 8, 2013 at the Newton Campus Field.
• Nick Butler scored the game-winning goal in the 58th minute. Zeiko Lewis tallied a pair of assists and classmate Isaac Normesinu also had one. Alex Kapp made three saves in goal.
• Boston College took an early 2-0 lead with goals in the sixth and eighth minutes. Medina-Mendez handled the ball outside the box on the left hand side and sent a short cross towards the middle. Wendelken bounced a header past the SU keeper to give the Eagles a 1-0 edge.
• Less than two minutes later, Medina-Mendez tallied a goal of his own from the top of the box off of passes from Lewis and Normesinu.
• The Orange got one of the goals back in the 15th minute. Oyvind Alseth started the attack when he found Chris Nanco on the left side of the box near the end line. He sent a pass towards the middle and Emil Ekblom got a foot on it to find the back of the net.
• Syracuse scored the equalizer in the second half in the 53rd minute. Jordan Murrell launched a long pass from his position at left back to a streaking Ekblom down the left side of the pitch. A nice first touch gave him some space to shoot and he found the far side of the net to make it a 2-2 game.
• A little over five minutes later, BC struck again in what proved to be the game-winner. The Eagles earned a corner kick on the right side that Lewis took. His cross went to the far side of the box where Wendelken got a head on it to redirect towards the middle. The 6-4 Butler took another head to the ball and beat the keeper to give the lead back to the home side.
• There was no shortage of drama the rest of the way as both sides had chances to do more damage. Kapp made a couple of big saves down the stretch, including one at the 27:57 mark when Juuso Pasanen hit a blast that deflected off of someone.
• Giuliano Frano nearly added an insurance goal with 21 minutes left when his blast from 28 yards out deflected off the left post.
• Kapp made another huge save with 15 minutes to go when Grant Chong sent a low shot at him. Kapp dove to his right and got his fingers on it, and the ball grazed off the post and went out of bounds.
• A red card was issued to Syracuse in the 79th minute but it managed to keep the pressure on BC. The Orange spent a good amount of time on attack in the last 10 minutes, but only came away with one shot that was blocked by a BC defender.
• Alex Bono made one save in goal for Syracuse.
