Q&A With Alex Dragicevich
October 22, 2014 | Men's Basketball
What did you do over the summer?
"I was here working out for both summer sessions. This was one of the more demanding summers I had. Coach Christian had the Gun Club where we all had to shoot 20,000 jumpers along with all of the workouts. It was good. I was also taking classes."
What were some of the struggles of sitting out a season and then getting back to game action?
"Getting adjusted to it is pretty difficult. It's all about getting your playing reps up. It probably took me three games. You kind of swing back into it after that. It's a pretty quick adjustment period."
What have you done to take more of a leadership role?
"I think my attitude is a little different. I think I am more appreciative. I am getting the most out of each practice because I know it's my last go-around. When I am getting the most out of practice and the other seniors have that same attitude, I think the practice environment is really strong and competitive. Everyone is playing like it's their last year."
What are some things that you have tried to improve on in your game?
"The coaches gave me a lot of pointers over the summer to work on. They wanted me to work on getting quicker to the ball on defense and always being active on the boards."
How has the locker room changed from last spring to this fall?
"The culture is different. A lot of it starts at the top. This coaching staff has a different attitude and a different game plan on offense and defense. They have a different attitude towards basketball and that has trickled down into our locker room. You have different guys so that changes it as well."
Why do you wear #23?
"I wanted to be #12 like I was at Notre Dame. Ryan (Anderson) had #12 so I wanted to be #13 like Steve Nash. (John Cain) Carney had #13. Then I just asked what was available and it was between #15 and #23, so I went with #23."
What are you looking forward to in the next 23 days?
"We are working out constantly. It's very tough. The preseason is a grueling time especially starting two weeks earlier than we used to. I am looking forward to playing the exhibition game and seeing how we do. That's how you find out about your team. This year is going to be fun. I think we're going to be a really good team and it would be nice to go out with a good record."
