Volleyball Outlasted By Notre Dame

The Eagles (3-4 ACC, 8-10) traveled to Notre Dame, Ind. to play the Fighting Irish (2-6 ACC, 5-14) on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. Boston College fell in five-sets, despite taking the first two.
BC was led by junior outside Katty Workman who tallied 15 kills, 12 digs and three block assists. Three other Eagles also recorded double digit kills. Julia Topor had 12, Sol Calvete recorded 11, and Kam McClain tallied 10 kills. Anna Skold was just two kills off of double digits with eight kills and a .250 hitting percentage. Senior setter Kellie Barnum dished out 43 assists in the five-set loss. Libero Courtney Castle had 13 digs on the afternoon.
BC took set one by a two point margin, firing off four aces to secure the win, despite ND’s .417 hitting percentage. In the close victory over the host team, the Eagles recorded 15 kills and .303 hitting percentage.
The second frame also belonged to the Eagles at 25-19. They tallied 14 kills and a .281 hitting percentage. Through two sets the Eagles were led offensively by Workman who had seven kills and no errors on nine attempts, good for a .778 hitting percentage.
The Fighting Irish prevailed in set three, 25-22, staying alive in the match. ND’s hitting efficiency gave the home team the upper hand it needed to take down the Eagles in the third set.
Notre Dame also took set four, 25-18, forcing the match to go to a fifth and deciding set. After four sets, the Eagles were led by Workman who had 13 kills and Castle who had 12 digs.
The Eagles were outlasted by the Fighting Irish in the 15-point set to win the match. Notre Dame pulled ahead at the eight point switch and held the lead the rest of the set to ultimately win the match, 15-7.
The Eagles will head south next weekend to North Carolina. Coach Campbell and his team face North Carolina on Oct. 24 and North Carolina State on Oct. 26.
