October 13, 2014 | Football
Chestnut Hill, Mass. - Boston College football players Brian Mihalik and Josh Keyes were honored by the Atlantic Coast Conference with weekly awards for their play in the victory over NC State, the league announced on Monday. Mihalik was named the Defensive Lineman of the Week and Keyes earned Co-Linebacker of the Week.
Mihalik, a senior defensive end from Avon Lakes, Ohio, recorded his first career interception at a critical time in the win in Raleigh. With the Eagles up by seven, the 6-foot-9, 295-pound end intercepted Jacoby Brissett's second-and-16 pass at the beginning of the second half and returned it 21 yards to give the Eagles first-and-10 at the Pack's 10-yard line. The INT broke Brissett's streak of 187 passes without one. Earlier in the game, Mihalik recorded a sack, his 3.5 on the season, for a loss of eight yards, on third-and-seven to force State to punt.
Keyes earned his second linebacker of the week honors after recording a career-high 10 tackles in the win. The senior led the BC defense past NC State, not allowing the Wolfpack to score after the first quarter. He recorded two tackles for loss, including his team-high fourth sack of the season, forcing Brissett to fumble at his own 46-yard line in the fourth quarter. The Eagle defense allowed the Pack just 43 rushing yards and 217 total yards on the night. Keyes is second on the team with 32 tackles and leads BC with 9.5 tackles for a loss of 42 yards.
