Chestnut Hill, Mass. - The Boston College football team held the first scrimmage of the spring season Saturday in Alumni Stadium. The team practiced for the first half hour and then ran through a number of series with rotating quarterbacks. All four quarterbacks - Chase Rettig, Josh Bordner, Mike Marscovetra and Christian Suntrup saw time. Rettig started and led the team to the only touchdown on a five-yard pass to C.J. Parsons. Bordner played in five series and rushed for 33 yards. Defensively, junior Sean Sylvia returned an interception for aa 45-yard touchdown.
Following the scrimmage it was announced that running back Rolandan Finch has left the team for personal reasons.
Coach Steve Addazio on the scrimmage:
We are just trying to have diversity in our formations and groupings. We are in empty and then we come back empty back into home. We are in a power run game and taking the big people and spreading the field with them. We are not together yet exactly where we want to be packages wise. We are hunting and pecking still.
What worked for the team today?
We have a real power back in Andre Williams. That guy right there is a strong, big, powerful back. We are little dinged up on our offensive line right now but I like the way we are developing. So those two things can go together pretty good. The other thing that goes together is Chase can make plays. I liked the way he developed as a leader today. He really worked at that today. He's making better decisions and he's throwing the ball well. We can really tie in some play action with him.
Quarterback Chase Rettig on the scrimmage:
I think we sustained drives whether it be running the ball for first downs or making plays on third. It is real important on the new offense we have ... it shows a little bit of promise. The one time we were in the red zone we settled for a field goal. We have to turn that into a touchdown.
