Mata Captures ACC Defensive Player of the Week Accolades

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Boston College sophomore goalie Emily Mata has captured Atlantic Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Week accolades, the conference office announced Tuesday.
The product of Severna Park, Md., made 20 saves and recorded a .455 save percentage this past week in a win over No. 9 Virginia and a loss to No. 5 Syracuse.
In Saturday's 10-7 win over Virginia, Mata posted nine saves on 24 total shots and 16 shots on goal. She held the Cavaliers to 2 of 6 on free position shots including two saves. The Severna Park High School alumna made six saves in the first half to help BC maintain a 4-2 halftime lead and earn its first win over a top-10 opponent since defeating No. 7 Virginia on April 2, 2011.
On Wednesday against Syracuse, she registered a season-high 11 saves while facing 35 total shots and 28 shots on goal.
Mata has played every minute in goal this season for BC, tallying 69 saves (6.27 saves per game). She also received the award last season on March 27.
