BC FACES HARVARD IN CAMBRIDGE
• Boston College will take on local rival Harvard on New Year's Day at 4 p.m. in Lavietes Pavilion.
• It marks the first time Harvard has hosted the Eagles since December 7, 1991, a 98-59 win for Boston College.
• BC is 14-4 all-time in Lavietes Pavilion.
• Harvard has won each of the last five meetings between the two sides, including a 79-63 decision last December in Conte Forum.
• The Eagles went 1-5 in the month of December and most recently lost to VCU in the Barclays Center, 69-50, on Saturday.
• Harvard has started the year 11-1 and has won seven in a row. Its only loss came at Colorado in late November.
VCU TOO MUCH FOR EAGLES
• Sophomore Olivier Hanlan scored a game-high 17 points as Boston College lost to VCU, 69-50, on Saturday night at the Barclays Center as part of the BROOKLYN HOOPS Winter Festival.
• Hanlan was 10-for-14 from the foul line and scored 13 of his points in the second half. He also had five rebounds. Junior Ryan Anderson recorded 13 points and seven boards.
• There were four ties and four lead changes in the first 20 minutes and VCU took a 22-17 lead into the half.
• The Rams scored the first six points of the second half to build a 28-17 lead at the 17:17 mark. That was part of a 27-10 start to the second half for VCU which gave it a 49-27 lead near the midway point. Boston College was never closer than 16 points the rest of the way.
LAST YEAR VS. HARVARD
• Ryan Anderson scored a game-high 23 points to go with seven rebounds, but Boston College lost to Harvard, 79-63, in front of 3,128 fans at Conte Forum on December 4, 2012.
• Anderson went 11-for-12 from the field and set a career high for field goals made. It was his third game last season with 20 or more points.
• Joe Rahon led all players with eight assists to go along with 12 points and Lonnie Jackson recorded 11 points for the Eagles.
• Anderson notched BC's first six points and 11 of the first 14 as the two teams opened the contest tied, 14-14, eight minutes in. Anderson went 5-for-5 from the floor during that stretch, with a three-point play from Rahon accounting for BC's only other points. The Crimson then used a 9-0 run to claim a 23-14 edge at the 7:23 mark.
• BC responded with a run of its own - outscoring Harvard 12-1 over a 2:58 span - to gain a 26-24 lead with 4:22 left to play in the first half. During that run, Jackson scored eight points and Drew Jacobs capped the scoring with a floater in the lane. After a 7-0 run gave Harvard a 31-26 lead, Jackson connected on a 3-pointer with 42 seconds left to cut the Crimson's lead to 31-29 at the half.
• Harvard came out in the second half and scored eight unanswered points to start which became part of a 23-8 run over the first 7:26 to build a 57-37 lead. The Eagles used a mini 9-4 run to trim Harvard's lead to 61-46 at the 10:29 mark, but Harvard maintained a lead of at least 15 points through the remainder of the game.
• Siyani Chambers led Harvard with 21 points to go with six assists. Wesley Saunders (18 points) and Jonah Travis (14 points) also scored in double-figures for the Crimson.
EAGLES RANK 2ND IN FREE THROW PERCENTAGE
• Entering this week, Boston College ranked second in the country in free throw percentage at 78.5 percent.
• The Eagles ranked 42nd in free throws made and 118th in free throw attempts.
• BC hit more free throws through 10 games than it had attempts in the first 10 games of last season.
• Sophomore Olivier Hanlan ranks ninth in the ACC in free throw percentage at .835 (91-for-109).
• Sophomore Joe Rahon has gone 21-for-25 (.840) so far this year and junior Patrick Heckmann is 16-for-17 (.941) from the stripe which leads the team.
• Rahon and Heckmann haven't met the minimum number of attempts to rank in the ACC.
• Junior Ryan Anderson is 66-for-87 (.759).
• Hanlan (8.3) and Anderson (6.7) are second and third in the ACC in free throw attempts per game, respectively.
• Last season, Boston College shot 71 percent from the stripe.
