No. 7 Field Hockey Earns 5-2 Win Over Harvard

Newton, Mass. - The seventh-ranked Boston College field hockey team defeated Harvard, 5-2, on Wednesday evening at the Newton Campus Field Hockey Complex. Sophomore forward AshLeigh Sebia scored a career-high three goals in the Eagles' 12th win of the year.
The Eagles (12-4) outshot the Crimson (5-7), 21-11, in the regional matchup and both of Harvard's goals came on penalty strokes.
"This was a key regional win for us," head coach Ainslee Lamb said after the match. "One of our goals is that we step on the field and compete against the regional teams. I thought we did a good job staying focused on the task at hand, which was to win this game tonight."
With two ACC contests left on the schedule, the Eagles finished their non-conference schedule with an 11-1 record.
Harvard got on the board in the third minute as Marissa Balleza converted a penalty stroke to give the Crimson a 1-0 lead.
It didn't last long as Sebia scored her first goal on a deflection off of junior midfielder Emma Plastera's shot three minutes later. Plasteras dribbled down the field, into the circle and drove on net. Sebia deflected the ball high past goalie Jenn Hatfield to even the game.
Sebia then gave the Eagles the lead in the 14th minute on a corner as freshman forward Eryn McCoy took a direct shot on net and Sebia tipped it in.
Before the end of the half, junior Katlyn Soucy put BC up, 3-1, as she scored her first goal of the year. The midfielder dribbled into the circle from the right side and shot to the left corner with less than six minutes to play in the frame.
Balleza made it a one-goal game in the 49th minute, converting a second penalty stroke, but freshman midfielder Emily McCoy gave BC the two-score lead again four minutes later on an unassisted goal. She collected a rebound off new netminder Issy Davies' pads and placed it high to the left corner for her ninth of the year.
With a minute and a half to play, Sebia completed her hat trick, deflecting another shot off Eryn McCoy's corner shot. Sebia now has seven goals on the year and McCoy notched her first two collegiate assists.
The game against Harvard marked the Eagles' "Stick It To Cancer" game to raise funds for the National Foundation for Cancer Research and the Play4TheCure campaign. BC wraps up the regular-season home schedule on Saturday, Oct. 26 at 1 p.m. matchup against No. 8 Duke. The Eagles' five seniors will be honored before the start of the game.
