Baseball Travels to Blacksburg to Play Virginia Tech

Blacksburg, Va. - After hosting two ACC series, and taking two-of-three games from both Georgia Tech and Maryland, the Boston College baseball team travels to Blacksburg, Va., to play a three-game series with Virginia Tech starting on Friday, April 6 at 5:30 p.m. Saturday's noon game will be broadcast on NESN and ESPN 3.
The two teams wrap up with the finale on Sunday at 1 p.m.
The Eagles (13-16, 4-8 ACC) are coming off their second ACC series win, beating Maryland, 10-3, and, 5-4, in 12 innings, before dropping the third game, 7-1. They went on to beat Connecticut, 8-5, at home but fell to Harvard, 5-3, on Wednesday afternoon.
The Hokies (19-12, 2-8 ACC) lost three games to No. 4 Florida State last weekend in Tallahassee, Fla. They rebounded with a 13-4 win versus Wofford on Tuesday with Wednesday's game being canceled.
Since 2001, the Eagles have a slight 14-12 edge in the series but have a 5-8 in Blacksburg. BC is 2-1 in extra innings against VT.
Last season, the Maroon and Gold took two-of-three from Virginia Tech. The games were played in Kingston, R.I., due to field conditions at Shea Field. BC took the series opener, 5-3, as current senior SS Anthony Melchionda hit a two-run homer and eight different pitchers shut out VT for eight innings. Senior RHP Andrew Lawrence picked up the win. In game two, senior LHP Nate Bayuk allowed one hit through 7.0 innings and classmate OF Marc Perdios drove in two runs to lead BC to a 2-1 victory. The Eagles fell in the third game, 8-1, as John Leonard tallied the loss, throwing 4.2 innings and allowing five runs - two earned - on seven hits. Current junior C Matt Paré tallied the Eagles' only RBI of the game.
