Boca Raton, Fla - Sophomore pitcher Amanda Horowitz struck out six batter, did not give up a walk and allowed one run on three hits in a complete game effort as the Boston College softball team topped Bethune-Cookman, 4-1, to open the FAU Embassy Suites Classic on Friday afternoon.

The Eagles improved to 13-5, while the Wildcats fell to 5-17. S. Tolbert shouldered the loss, collecting four strikeouts, two walks and one earned run on four hits in six innings.

Horowitz registered four strikeouts through the first two innings, openings each frame with back-to-back Ks.

The Eagles took the lead in the bottom of the second, 1-0. Senior Ali Lynette-Krech singled up the middle to lead off and stole second following a pop out by BC. Freshman Chelsea Dimon found the gap in right center to triple and bring in Lynette-Krech.

BC added two runs in the third, 3-0. Freshman CJ Chirichigno drew a one-out walk and was moved to second on single up the middle by senior Brittany Wilkins. The Eagles executed a double steal to get both in scoring position and they came in when the Wildcats centerfielder mishandled the ball.

Boston College scored its final run in the fifth, 4-0. Chirichigno reached on a throwing error by the third baseman and stole second. One out later, another throwing error from the hot corner enabled Speer to reach first and the rookie to cross the plate.

Bethune-Cookman got on the board with one run in the sixth, 4-1. With one out, K. Rodney singled up the middle and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Banuelos-Smith singled to third to put runners on the corners, before a 1-3 ground out left both Wildcats in scoring position. Rodney broke for home on another wild pitch, reaching safely for B-CU's only run of the day.
