Women's Tennis Falls to USF, 5-2

Tampa, Fla. - The No. 48 Boston College women's tennis team lost to No. 42 USF, 5-2, on Wednesday afternoon in a match that lasted almost five hours. The Eagles (7-5) swept the doubles matches, but could only muster one singles win against the Bulls (8-4).
Juniors Alex Kelleher and Olga Khmylev, ranked 18th in the nation, fell to Ecaterina Vasenina and Loreto Alonso Martinez, 8-4, on court one, while freshman Jessica Wacnik and senior Erina Kikuchi took an 8-5 victory over Danielle Mills and Paula Montoya. On the third court, senior Katarina Gajic and Ina Kauppila shut out Fanny Fracassi and Lucie Rey, 8-0, to earn the point.
In singles action, Kikuchi earned the win on court two, defeated Alonso Martinez, 6-0, 7-5. Vasenina, ranked 43rd in the nation, defeated Wacnik, 6-0, 3-6, 6-2, on court one. On the third court, Kelleher fell to Fracassi, 6-3, 7-5 and on the fourth court, Khmylev lost to Mills, 6-2, 6-5. Montoya defeated Gajic in three sets, 6-5, 4-6, 7-5, on court five and Alessandra Bonte beat junior Kelly Barry, 6-3, 6-2, in the No. 6 spot.
The Eagles return to action on Friday, March 9 when they battle ACC-opponent Miami, ranked 12th overall. BC is 1-1 in conference play this season.
