Women's Tennis Falls to No. 12 Miami

Coral Gables, Fla. - The No. 48 Boston College women's tennis team lost to No. 12 Miami, 7-0, on Friday afternoon. The Eagles (7-6, 1-2 ACC) could not get anything going against the Hurricanes (8-1, 3-0 ACC), winning only two sets on the day.
On the doubles courts, senior Katarina Gajic and junior Ina Kauppila lost to Anna Bartenstein and Brittany Dubins, 8-2, on court three. Senior Erina Kikuchi and freshman Jessica Wacnik fell to Gabriela Mejia and Lina Lileikite on court two and 18th-ranked pair juniors Alex Kelleher and Olga Khmylev were defeated by Liat Zimmerman and Melissa Bolivar on court one. Both BC pairs lost, 8-6.
In singles action, 12th-ranked Bartenstein defeated Kikuchi, 6-4, 6-1, in the No. 1 position and 118th-ranked Lileikite beat Kelleher, 6-3, 6-1, in the No. 3 position. Wacnik won the first set, 7-6, on the court two against No. 25 Mejia, but the UM player fired back to win the next two, 6-0, 6-0. On court four, Gajic fell to Bolivar, 6-3, 6-4, while on court five, Khmylev lost to Zimmerman, 7-5, 6-2. In the No. 6 position, junior Kelly Barry also battled her way to three sets against Dubins, eventually falling, 6-3, 3-6, 6-1.
The Eagles take on another ACC opponent on March 17 when they play No. 59 Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Va., at 10 a.m.
