DeLand, Fla. - The Boston College softball team fell to Stetson, 7-1, on Tuesday evening. Junior Maria Pandolfo went 1-for-3 and drove in the Eagles (11-5) only run. Classmate Nicole D'Argento tossed 4.1 innings, struck out two batters, walked a pair and gave up two runs.

Sophomore Amanda Horowitz shouldered the loss for BC, giving up five earned runs on two hits, allowing four walks and striking out one batter in 1.2 innings.

Meredith Owen struck out four, walked one and allowed one earned run on hits in a complete game, while Chelsey Trotto, Demi Meza and Brittany Knipp each drove in two runs for the Hatters (11-5).

Stetson took a two run lead in the first, 2-0. Chrissy Morello was hit by a pitch on the 2-0 count and stayed stagnant at first until Meza drew a walk two outs later. Knipp then double to center to plate both runners.

BC produced on run in the second, but Stetson answered with three for 5-1 lead. Freshman Andrea Filler drew a walk and was moved over on a sac bunt from sophomore Tory Speer. Senior Ali Lynette-Krech single to second and designated player Chelsea LoBue loaded the bases on a Hatters fielding error at second. Junior Maria Pandolfo then singled to left, bringing in Filler, 2-1. Stetson got the Eagles on a force out at home and caught a foul to get out of the jam.

Horowitz got Allison Sutherlin swinging, but Chelsea Whalley drew a walk and stole second to open the bottom half. A fly out to center moved Whalley to third and Morello drew a four-pitch walk to put runners on the corners. After Trotto drew a walk to load the bases, Owen was hit by a pitch to plate Whalley, 3-1. Meza then singled up the middle to drive in two runs, 5-1, and cue D'Argento's entrance to the circle.

The Hatters two-run home stretched their lead to 7-1 in the sixth. Cleghorn drew a full-count, leadoff walk and was moved to second on a sac bunt. Trotto then cleared the left field wall for the six run lead.

With one out, the Pandolfo and Rene Delagrammaticas hit singles to reach base, but Stetson got BC to pop up twice to end the game.

Boston College will meet Stetson again on Wednesday, March 7 at 4 p.m.
