
Women's Tennis Drops Two ACC Matches

Chestnut Hill, Mass. - The No. 62 Boston College women's tennis team lost two home conference matches to No. 22 Clemson and No. 21 Georgia Tech, both by scores of 5-2, over the weekend. The Eagles (7-9, 1-5 ACC) fell to the Tigers (10-6, 3-1 ACC) on Friday and the Yellow Jackets (9-7, 3-2 ACC) on Saturday at the Flynn Recreation Complex outdoor courts.
"We played two close matches and I am excited about how well we played against really good teams," head coach Nigel Bentley said. "We had lost of really close matches this weekend and I am proud of the team."
On Friday, senior Erina Kikuchi defeated Josipa Bek, 6-1, 6-1, on court one, but dropped her No. 1 match to No. 22 Jillian O'Neill of GT on Saturday after losing the first set, 6-2, due to injury. She and partner freshman Jessica Wancik, who are ranked 62nd in the nation, won both her matches in the No. 2 position, beating Clemson's Romy Kӧelzer and Beatrice Gumulya, 8-6, and Georgia Tech's Lynn Blau and Elizabeth Kilborn, 8-5. Wacnik lost on No. 47 Keri Wong, 6-4, 6-2, on Friday, but defeated 86th-ranked Kilborn of Georiga Tech, 8-5, on Saturday.
Senior Katarina Gajic beat 113th-ranked Nelly Ciolkowski of Clemson, 6-3, 6-2, on Friday and then went on to defeat Christina Ngo, 5-7, 7-6 (4), 1-0 (7), on Saturday, in the No. 3 position. She and partner junior Ina Kauppila fell at the No. 3 position on the doubles court in both conference matches, to the Tigers' Klara Vyskocilova and Monika Kochanova, 8-2, and the Jackets' Ngo and Muriel Wacker, 8-3.
Junior Alex Kelleher lost to 103rd-ranked Vyskocilova, 6-0, 6-2, on court four on Friday and then to Jasmine Minor, in three sets (4-6, 7-5, 6-4) on Saturday. Her doubles partner, junior Olga Khymlev lost to Gumulya in two sets by scores of 6-1 in the No. 5 position and then to Alex Anghelescu, 6-3, 6-4, on the same court on Saturday. The two, ranked 36th in the nation, lost both their doubles matches on the first court, first to 17th-ranked pair Wong and Bek, 8-3, and then to ninth-ranked pair O'Neill and Anghelescu, 9-7.
Junior Kelly Barry fell on the sixth court to Kӧelzer, 6-1, 6-1, versus Clemson and played a tough, three-set match against Blau, but fell, 4-6, 6-1, 7-5, against Georgia Tech.
The Eagles return to action on April 1 when they take on No. 40 Florida State in Tallahassee, Fla., at 11 a.m.
