Men's Basketball Falls To Dayton, 87-71

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Freshman Joe Rahon led Boston College with 16 points but the Eagles lost to Dayton, 87-71, in front of 3,177 fans Friday afternoon at TD Arena.
Rahon went 5-for-9 from the field and added four assists and a steal. Sophomore Ryan Anderson recorded 14 points, eight rebounds and three assists, and classmate Patrick Heckmann hit three 3-pointers and notched 13 points.
Boston College built a 19-14 lead early in the first half on an Eddie Odio jumper at the 12:33 mark. The Eagles maintained a three-point lead, 23-20, with 8:14 left, but Dayton would take over from there. The Flyers ended the half on a 17-3 run to take a 37-26 lead into the locker room.
BC only made one basket in the final 8:14 on an Anderson layup. Dyshawn Pierre scored five points for Dayton during the run.
The Flyers pushed their lead to 15 points, 50-35, five minutes into the second half and controlled the rest of the game. A Rahon 3-pointer cut the deficit to single digits, 58-49 with 10:55 remaining, but that is as close as BC got.
Dayton (2-1) was able to pull away again and led by as much as 17 points with 7:34 left.
Five Flyers scored in double figures led by Pierre who had 23 points. He shot a perfect 8-for-8 from the field and hit five 3-pointers. Devin Oliver recorded 17 points and eight rebounds while Jalen Robinson contributed 15 points and six boards.
The Eagles (1-2) will face the loser of Auburn and College of Charleston on Sunday at noon.
