Head coach Ashley Obrest named Erica Hanrahan the assistant for the Boston College softball program.
Hanrahan, who hails from Chicago, coached the Elmwood Park High School varsity team for the past 10 seasons. She led the team to record-breaking seasons, including tallying the top three win totals in school history. The Tigers also advanced to the Elite 8 in the state playoffs twice and won two sectional and six regional championships. Hanrahan was named Sectional Coach of the Year honors in 2009 and 2011. At Elmwood, Hanrahan was also an English teacher.
Hanrahan also founded and ran the Lady Tigers Travel Organization, in which her responsibilities included recruiting, fundraising and scheduling for U10 to U18 softball players. She was the coach of the U18 team and volunteered as the pitching coach in the winter months.
Hanrahan pitched for Saint Peter’s College in Jersey City, N.J., from 1997 to 2000, and led the team as a captain to its first MAAC title in 2000. She currently ranks fourth all-time for a 2.20 career ERA, fifth with 28 wins and seventh with 180 strikeouts. After graduation, Hanrahan became a graduate assistant at her alma mater, responsible for pitching and outfield instruction.
