Boston College football junior Luke Kuechly has earned Atlantic Coast Conference Linebacker of the Week recognition after recording 18 tackles and one interception in Saturday's season-opening loss to Northwestern, according to a league announcement made on Tuesday.
Kuechly is a 6-foot-3, 237-pound junior from Cincinnati, Ohio. He led all players on Saturday with a game-high 18 tackles. Saturday marked the 23rd game in succession in which Kuechly has recorded 10 or more tackles. He also recorded one interception, picking off Northwestern quarterback Kain Colter with just over nine minutes remaining in the second quarter and returned it 23 yards to the Northwestern two yard line. BC scored its first touchdown of the season two plays later.
Kuechly's interception marked the fifth of his 27-game collegiate career.
A unanimous All-America first-team selection after leading the nation in tackles (183) and solo tackles (110) as a sophomore, Kuechly's conference honor marks his first of the season and the eighth of the career.
