Lacrosse Named 2011 IWLCA Academic Squad

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Boston College women's lacrosse team has been named a 2011 Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Academic Squad, according to an announcement made by the organization on Monday. This is the sixth consecutive year that BC has earned this honor.
"Receiving this honor for the sixth year in a row is a testament to the hard work and dedication our student-athletes put forth in the classroom," Head Coach Bowen Holden said. "Academics are the first priority here at BC and as a member of our lacrosse team. This award simply shows everyone's commitment to academic and athletic excellence. I am very proud of the 2011 team."
To qualify for this recognition from the IWLCA, schools must have achieved a cumulative team GPA of 3.0 or above for the 2010-2011 academic year. As a team, the Eagles combined for a 3.19 GPA during the spring semester, the squad's busiest time of the year. Boston College was one of three ACC institutions to be named to the list.
Seven Eagles, including all five seniors, were named to the 2011 ACC All-Academic Team. Seniors Hannah Alley, Jill Amo, Kristin Igoe, Jill Rekart, and Sheila Serafino each received the conference distinction, as well as freshman Moira Barry and sophomore Ali Meagher.
Boston College finished the 2011 season 12-7 overall, and made its first NCAA Tournament appearance in program history. Last year, BC was ranked as high as No. 9 in the national polls, marking its highest ranking ever.
