Des Moines, Iowa - Boston College track and field captain Caroline King competed in the NCAA 800-meter semifinal on Wednesday evening in Drake Stadium. The Scotia, N.Y. native drew a lane six starting position in heat one and ran her way to a 2:06.38 clip.
King's time earned her sixth place in the section, 18th overall and did not advance her to Friday's final. Moving on from the heat are Lea Wallace (2:04.57) of Sacramento St. and Cydney Ross (2:04.79) of Duke.
King ends the season one race short of the first-team All-American trifecta, having earned national accolades in cross country and the indoor mile earlier this year. However, the mid-distance specialist will return to The Heights as an honorable mention All-American for having taken part in a round at the NCAA Championship.
The ACC 800-meter champion is only the second Eagle to ever run in three national championship meets in one school year. During the 1997-98 campaign, Angie Graham earned All-American honors in cross country, the indoor mile and the outdoor 3,000-meter run.
The 2011 outdoor season saw King run the second fastest 800-meter (2:04.79) and 1,500-meter (4:17.48) times in BC history, as well as capture the program's first-ever Penn Relay title as the anchor for the 4x1500-meter relay. She was named the Penn Relay College Women's Athlete of the Meet for Relay Events for her efforts.
