King Gears Up For 800M NCAA Semifinal On Wednesday

Chestnut Hill, Mass. – Boston College track and field captain Caroline King will compete in heat one of the 800 meter NCAA Semifinal on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. in Des Moines, Iowa. To advance to the championship meet being held on Jim Duncan Track and Johnny Bright Field in Drake Stadium, King won heat two of the quarterfinal round with a personal record of 2:04.79 on May 27.
The Scotia, N.Y. native is only the second Eagle to qualify for three NCAA championships in one academic year. King ran in the cross country championship this past fall and followed up with an appearance in the indoor mile final in March, earning All-American accolades at each meet.
Angie Graham is only other athlete from BC to take part in the national championship over three consecutive seasons. During the 1997-98 year, Graham earned All-American honors in cross country, the indoor mile and the outdoor 3,000-meter run.
The top two finishers from each heat, plus the next two fastest times will advance to Thursday’s final.
King, the 2011 ACC 800 Champion, will vie for an automatic bid against a field of eight featuring two other conference title holders and three ACC counterparts. Sacramento State’s Lea Wallace, the Big Sky champ holds the heats fastest qualifying time at 2:03.69, while Lacey Bleazard of BYU – the reigning Mountain West and NCAA indoor 800 meter champion – comes in with a 2:05.08 mark.
Joining King from the Atlantic Coast are Cydney Ross of Duke (2:05.94), Tasha Stanley of North Carolina (2:05.42) and Lyndsay Harper of Virginia (2:05.84). Stanley finished as the runner-up to King in their national quarterfinal heat in May.
Brigette Mania from Connecticut (2:05.94) and Boglarka Bozzay from Kansas State (2:05.77) round out the field.
