Softball Will Open ACC Tournament Against North Carolina

Chestnut Hill, Mass. – The Boston College Softball team will face North Carolina in the opening round of the ACC Tournament on Friday, May 13 at Mewborn Field in Atlanta. The seventh-seeded Eagles (15-30, 5-13 ACC) meeting with the second-seeded Tar Heels (32-20, 13-7 ACC) is slated for 2:30 p.m.

Boston College fell in both games against North Carolina this season, 6-2, 4-0.
Heading into the postseason, senior Allison Gage and freshman Amanda Horowitz lead the Eagles from the mound.
Gage went 7-12 during the regular season and recorded team-highs for wins, innings pitched (138.1), strikeouts (64), appearances (33) and complete games (7).
Horowitz was 4-10 in 13 starts and 28 appearances. The rookie led BC with a 3.89 ERA and batted against average of .301, while also totaling 54 strikeouts in 90 innings.
Leading the charge from the plate are junior Brittany Wilkins, sophomore Nicole D’Argento and freshman Tory Speer.
Wilkins leads the squad in hits (44), doubles (9), total bases (92), on-base percentage (.431) and slugging percentage (.667). The catcher is batting .319, has 30 runs batted in and needs one more home run to tie the BC’s single-season record of 14.
D’Argento is slugging .544 with 11 home runs and 28 RBI. The first baseman is batting .268, has 40 hits and an OBP of .341.
Speer has a team-best batting average of .328 and 37 RBI. On Thursday, she hit two home runs to extend her freshman record to 11 and improved her slugging percentage .649, both are second for the Eagles.
Boston College lost its only ACC Tournament meeting with North Carolina, 5-0, in 2007.
