BC Fours find success at the Knecht Cup

COOPER RIVER, N.J. - Boston College Rowing raced Saturday, April 9th and 10th in the Knecht Cup. Some events had up to 30 entries, making this one of the largest regattas that the Eagles compete in during the spring season. The Women's Second Varsity Four (coxswain: Grace Lee, stroke: Chenny Zhang, 3: Victoria Goetz, 2: Alexis Carriere, bow: Abigail Oliveira) led by coxswain Grace Lee and stroke Chenny Zhang had the highest finish for the Eagles. After finishing second in their preliminary heat, they went on to finish fourth in the Grand Final beating UConn and Fairfield.
The Women's Varsity Four (coxswain: Lauren Beebe, stroke: Ellen Keenan, 3: Stephanie Ragland, 2: Rachel Pettis, bow: Sarah Loiselle) led by coxswain Lauren Beebe and stroke Ellen Keenan raced in a difficult event against 29 competitive crews. The Eagles qualified for the Grand Final after finishing first in their heat and second in their semi final. Seven crews raced in the Grand Final along with the Eagles who finished in sixth place ahead of Kansas.
The Women's Freshman Eight (coxswain: Rebekah Straneva, stroke: Karen Campbell, 7: Alexandra Smith, 6: Emily Lewis, 5: Caroline Mitton, 4: Katelyn Olsson, 3: Emily Churchill, 2: Rhianna James, bow: Karen Shu) qualified for the Petite Final after finishing second in their heat beating crews from UConn, George Mason, Fordham and Susquehanna. The Eagles finished fifth in their semi-final placing them in the Petite Final where they finished sixth.
The Women's Varsity Eight (coxswain: Brigid Morrissey, stroke: Erin Roche, 7: Erin Flaherty, 6: Alycia Da'Loia-Moore, 5: Emily Charnowski, 4: Melissa Chavez, 3: Laura Petty, 2: Megan Carmody, bow: Kelly Williams) raced hard in the heats with a time good enough to advance to the semi-finals. After a tough semi-final race, they advanced to the 3rd Level Final where they finished sixth.
The Second Varsity Eight (coxswain: Jasmine Howard, stroke: Maddie Whitehead, 7: Lauren Leckenby, 6: Stephanie Seitz, 5: Erica Jennings, 4: Victoria Von Rinteln, 3: Regina Hayburn, 2: Meghan Smith, bow: Ailis Peplau) raced in a competitive heat with Buffalo, UMass, Kansas, and Temple. The Eagles finished fourth and did not advance to the semi-finals.
The Eagles have their next competition on April 17th against Holy Cross and UConn in Worcester, Massachusetts.
