Baseball Shut Out By UCF

ORLANDO, Fla. - UCF scored 11 times in the first three innings as the Knights defeated the Boston College baseball team, 18-0, Wednesday night at Jay Bergman Field.
The game featured an hour and five minute delay due to lightning in the area.
UCF got a big lead early with six runs in the bottom of the first. The Knights put their first three runners on base with two hits and a walk. Travis Shreve scored on a wild pitch for the game's first run and then Beau Taylor and Jonathan Griffin brought in runs with RBI singles to make it 3-0.
D.J. Hicks singled in another run with one out and then a walk loaded the bases. Derek Luciano brought in the fifth run with a fielder's choice and then an errant throw on a pickoff to first plated the final runner.
The Knights extended the lead in the second with three more runs. Darnell Sweeney knocked a one-out double and then stole third uncontested. Taylor tripled into the right field corner for a run and then Griffin took the first pitch of his at-bat over the wall in left to make it a 9-0 game.
UCF built an 11-0 lead with two more runs in the third. Shreve used a bunt to get himself an infield hit and then moved to scoring position on a wild pitch. Ronnie Richardson drove him in with an RBI single. Sweeney reached second on an infield error to put a pair in scoring position and another run scored on a groundout to short.
Erik Hempe tacked on another run in the seventh with a solo homer and then six runs in the eighth capped the scoring.
Griffin went 3-for-5 in the game with a homer, three RBI and three runs. Taylor was 2-for-4 with three RBI and two runs and Luciano hit a three-run homer and had four RBI. Brian Adkins got the win on the mound after throwing 7.0 innings of two hit baseball.
The Eagles wrap up their spring break trip by opening ACC play at No. 5 Florida State Friday night at 6 p.m. in the first of a three-game series.
