Freshman Alana Dimaso went 2-for-3, recording her first career multi-home run game and tallying five runs batted in to champion the Boston College softball team in victory over Nevada, 11-4, on Saturday evening at the Wolf Pack Classic.
Freshman Amanda Horowitz (1-4) picked up her first career victory with a four inning, three walk, three strikeout effort. Senior Allison Gage collected her first save of the season with a three inning relief appearance, where she struck out one and allowed only two hits.
Ariel Craig (0-1) took the loss for Nevada (4-10), allowing five runs in 2.1 innings with a walk and a strike out.
The Eagles (4-10) opened up the game with two runs in the first. The damage came on a two-run bomb from senior Gemma Ypparila, bringing in junior Brittany Wilkins who had reached on a fielder's choice.
The Wolf Pack scored one in the bottom of the first and evened the game with another run in the second.
A three-run third put BC back on top, 5-2. Ypparila singled to left and moved up to second when Wilkins, who had doubled to lead-off, attempted to take home. Freshman Tory Speer (2-for-3) knocked in the senior with a double to left, before Dimaso launched a two-run shot to tab Nevada for a pair of runs.
The Eagles continued to distance themselves with four runs in the fourth, 9-2. Sophomore Nicole D'Argento (2-for-5) went long to open the inning. Wilkins doubled to left and freshman Nicole Koszowski came in to pinch run. Following Speer's two-out walk, Dimaso stepped up and cracked her second long ball of day.
Nevada inched closer with two runs in the bottom of the fifth, but BC completed the scoring, 11-4, in the seventh. Junior Alison Kooistra doubled to right center and advanced to third on a wild pitch. With two outs, junior Lizzy Ploen (3-for-4) singled to second, plating Kooistra. D'Argento then singled to left, moving up Ploen, who was able to come all the way around on throwing errors from the Wolf Pack.
